Stabilometry has introduced measurement in the observation of orthostatic posture control phenomena. This allows the definition of figures which establish irrefutable, statistically confirmed, categories. Thanks to stabilometry the distribution of a number of parameters that characterize the “normal” orthostatic postural behaviour is known.

It is therefore possible to say whether the behaviour of a patient is within the normal limits determined by these parameters. What does stabilometry measure? It measures the average position of the body’s centre of gravity and its small movements around that position; the instrument used is the Stabilometric or Posturometric platform.

The main parameters to be checked are: the misalignment of the real centre of gravity from the theoretical one, the disorders in the load distribution on the two feet and on the pillars, modifications of the posturometric trace after occlusal changes, orthotics or other causes.

  • Localization on the ground projection of the person’s centre of gravity

  • The dynamics of such a projection at the moment of observation

  • The localization and dynamics of the centre of gravity of each foot

  • The load distribution between left and right foot

  • The distribution of the load between the 1st metatarsal bone, 5th metatarsal bone and heel. With the analysis of this data it is possible to evaluate the postural, vestibular, orthopaedic, dental and podiatry dysfunctions and pathologies.
